What is ECU Remapping?
When manufacturers develop new cars they have to consider all the conditions it could encounter in every region the model is sold. Because of this, vehicles generally have the Engine Control Unit (ECU) mapped to a suitable compromise to cater for a wide variety of potential situations. These could include sub-standard fuels, extremes in temperature and altitude, differing emission laws and even the possibility that vehicles may not be serviced on a regular basis and in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended instructions.
A vehicle is unlikely to be deliver the absolute best performance or the most fuel efficiency for this country under its standard ECU mapping.
How is it carried out?
ECU Remapping involves accessing the processing chip of your car's ECU and adjusting various parameters.
Settings such as fuel pressure, ignition advance, throttle pedal control, and boost pressure (on cars with turbochargers) are adjusted to release the true performance and efficiency from the engine.
Is it safe for my car?
In the hands of our experienced technicians ECU Remapping It is a completely safe process, as it simply releases the potential performance available before all the compromises were applied to the original programming.
Every engine will have its own unique map - by making adjustments to this we can fine tune the characteristics of the engine, unleashing more power and, in many cases, reducing fuel consumption.

Remap Benefits for a Turbocharged Diesel Engine
The modern trend for turbocharged diesels has presented fantastic potential for reliable low cost ECU tuning. You can successfully supplement the regular benefits of diesel powered vehicles, like economy, reliability and longevity.
After an ECU upgrade to your turbocharged diesel engine, you can enjoy:
- Increased horsepower
- Increased torque
- Better throttle response
- Smoother power delivery
- Improved fuel economy
- Safer overtaking
ECU Remap Benefits for Regular Petrol Engines
The naturally aspirated (non-turbo) petrol engine, whilst not the easiest of engines to tune, can still see a possible 8-15% power increase. Careful fine tuning of various engine parameters such as fuel and ignition curves can also lead to an improvement in torque.
On some engines further improvements can be made with the addition of 'after-market' tuning items, such as:
- Increased flow exhausts
- High flow air filters
- Re-profiled camshafts
- Camshaft timing adjustments
The potential of these upgrades can only be fully utilised by the engine once the necessary adjustments have been made within the ECU.
Further power gains may also be attained when a higher octane fuel is used (eg. Shell V-Power), allowing for improved ignition timing.
Which vehicles can have an ECU Remap?
We can remap most modern vehicle ECUs.
We will always advise you on whether you can expect to see worthwhile results before you commit to the remap.
